A summer nears its end...we put away our summer game paraphernalia and wait for the next summer to roll around. While the skies fog up and the rain begins to fall, pick yourself up a copy of Summer Sports: Paradise Island and continue the summer fun on your Wii! Warm Sunny Beaches meets Lush grassy fields where you play 7 fun summer games including: Badminton, Volleyball, Mini Golf, Horse Shoes, Lawn Darts, Basketball, and Croquet! All game are played with very simple gestures using the Wiimote. No nun chuck is required!

Okay, let’s start out with basketball. There are 3 different ways you can play basketball: Around the World, HORSE, or Shot Clock. Since there are many options in this game...you may play around the world 3 different ways. You play 5 Spot, 9 Spot, or 13 Spot. Horse is very addictive. You can change the word to any word you want...Horse, Pig, Zebra, JSR...whatever you want. In Shot Clock, you score as many baskets as you can in the set time. Very simple motions based controls...Hold B and do the shooting motion. Release B when you would release the ball. Lean the Wiimote down and up to dribble. Move with the arrows, very simple. There are 2 Courts to choose from.

Onto Croquet and Mini Golf…They both use the same basic controls. Hold A, Swing back then forward...There are 3 different croquet courses to choose from. There are 10 different colored balls to choose from. In Mini Golf you can play the first 3 holes, the middle 3 holes, the last 3 holes, or all 9. Again, there are 10 colors of balls to choose from. I guess you could compare the layout to Mini Golf Adventures on the XBL Arcade, and the graphics of the game.

Badminton and Volleyball are the other 2 similar games. They both are surrounded by the goal of get the item over the net. 2 VS 2 someone serves the shuttlecock over the net by lifting the Wiimote up and jerking it down. When playing alone, you control both players on your team. You can swing the Wii up or down to return it to the other side. You can play to how ever many rounds you want. The same motion is used to serve the volleyball. You control both players as well. They are basically the same game, but there are some differences witch makes both games worth playing.

Finally, we go to Lawn Darts and Horse Shoes, the two lawn games in this game. They are both played by throwing an object at a target. In Horse shoes, it’s a Horse Shoe at a pole...in Lawn Darts, It’s a dart at a bulls eye. It is a 2 team game. In Horse shoes you get 1 point by getting within .25 meters of the pole and 3 points for hitting it. In Lawn Darts, you get 1 point for getting in the outer ring of the bulls eye, 3 For Hitting the bulls eye.

There are 10 Avatars to choose from. 5 girls: Lucy, Tiana, Hema, Maria, and Sarah...and 5 boys: Jackie, Trevor, Raj, Sanchez, and Mat. Each have there favorite sports, Age, hometown, and a description written in the instruction manual. Again...All these games use very basic controls using the Wiimote, no nun chuck. The background music isn’t annoying, but it’s not great. It will take a few tries with each sport to get the controls down...but you’ll get it.
