Are you ready to explore the lost city of Atlantis with SpongeBob and all his friends? SpongeBob Atlantis Squarepants is rated E for everyone due to its content but definitely for children, especially for the SpongeBob loving fan. The game is actually only a few hours long but the levels (14 total) become quite lengthy and seem to last forever.
Ahoy! SpongeBob and his game begin their adventure by taking a trip to Atlantis on a magical flying bus. With this trip SpongeBob hopes to uncover the treasure with his friends and fulfill his dream of finding the "Worlds Oldest Living Bubble." After their arrival the Atlantis the gang seems to quickly overstay their welcome and the King of Atlantis with his forces decide to end their stay sooner than the gang had planned. It’s now all up to you to save them all!
The game is divided into four different main levels; vehicle, Platform, Point and Shoot and Button Combo. During the vehicle level you will find SpongeBob and his friends driving various vehicles (Atlantean tank, flying bus) for some examples. While driving you will attempt to run over collectibles and do it as quickly as possible getting as many of course as possible. During this drive many obstacles are present so try to avoid them at all cost by steering around and jumping over them or shooting them with the ice cream tank. Try to save time also by obtaining timers as you go that will pause the time clock, this always help when you’re being timed in any race.
During the Platform level, you will assist your friends in finding ways to escape after becoming entrapped within large mazes. Each character has his own special abilities that they can use to help guide them in this adventure despite before thinking that these abilities were crazy. Even so, still these abilities might seem crazy but can end up saving you and all your friends in the end.
Point and Shoot level will find you taking pictures at a museum (that you’re not supposed to be taking) and being chased by guards who you retaliate on by throwing the famous krabby patties and ping-pong balls. Hope your aim is good.
Button Combo level will combine coordination and repetition of pressing buttons in order to make music solos or masterpiece portraits. Well that’s how the instruction booklet explains it, but it seems to work out differently in play. It seems the music disappears after the beginning and you keep pushing the sequence of buttons just to keep the characters walking in a straight line. What happened to the playing music? This was very disappointing and can even make a child grow tiresome of the repeative sequel for it seems nothing to accomplish in the end.
From the menu you can choose the Atlantean Gift Shop to see if your time and scores from play were good enough to be able to unlock more different levels. Some of the levels enable you to change costumes and the look of SpongeBob which can be very amusing for younger children. Arcade games can also be unlocked for further play with the Amulets that you have earned. You can try to beat your own score or challenge a second player at this point in the Amoeba Arcade. Depending on how loyal a fan you are to SpongeBob will determine how much you’ll like it. Atlantis has some good playing standards but sadly doesn’t compare to its prior past SpongeBob’s version of Battle for Bikini Bottom. Despite some disappointments the characters, colors, animation plays and voices can still bring a smile to ones face.
