Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) release for the PS3 is a return of the world’s 1st person sci-fi shooter game with the added improvements in challenge, graphics, and performance on the console verses the PC version in its earlier series of production.

The main objective of UT3 hasn’t changed since the original version released in 1999, but quality has experienced a step-up.   UT3 can be played as a single player or multi-player in co-op games. If playing in single player mode you and a team of mercenaries are seeking revenge for those who have destroyed the people’s colony. Players can engage in action with computer-controlled bots within instant action marches like; Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Vehicle Capture the Flag, Warfare, and Duel. Control options can be by either using the PS handheld or the keyboard and mouse. Both work rather well depending on what you’re comfortable in using.

UT3 has a variety of unreal characters (9 in all), in which all can be customized from head to toe with accessories. These characters appearance range from being highly enhanced modified humans that have extra 3-dementional, acrobatic and combat abilities to robots, automatons, and reptilian species each possessing highly skilled fighting tactics that are truly fearsome.

Along with the fearsome characters in UT3 are the weapons and vehicles in which they use that are truly out of this world. Even the sniper rifle in UT3 isn’t your usual sniper rifle. The weapons produce a multitude of abilities ranging from shock waves that can produce several hundred tons of pressure in a few square centimeters.   Several types of plasma weapons, grenades launchers and photon beam weapons, along with many others are also available and all proving to provide the ultimate protection for the ultimate warrior. Unreal vehicles also provide the ultimate defense with Axon tanks, air support devices providing vertical take-offs and hovering abilities.   Awesome up-armored ATV like vehicles, some the size of buildings also provide superior protection for its passengers not only by its armor but also by its devastating power maneuvers in which its capable of providing at the touch of a button. Some vehicles even look like giant mechanical squids having large tentacles that can burn away its enemy. We really can’t describe or include all of the weapons available in UT3 because this game has a pretty impressive fleet to choose from (28 in all) with a large variety of powers to unleash. We can say that the weapons and vehicles will provide a lot of variety for the game and definitely took alot of thought from its producers during the making. Giving credit to the makers for all the hard work in UT3s characters and weapons they also provided even more assistance during  battle with added ammunition, armor, shields, health, and power-ups that can be obtained on the battlefield and used as needed for even more added special combat abilities.   Picking up an Orb (tiny glowing ball) can also be very helpful since it provides 100% instantaneous capture of a linked, neutral or enemy node and can also allow even a losing team to gain a comeback!   Some of these pick-ups may require a little searching but generally can be found near weapon spawn points, but this is not always the case.

The graphics and visual orientation for the game is definitely ranking with some of the best games out there, but of course as with any game there is always room for improvement. One negative aspect is definitely the large number of maps and modes for play which can become very aggravating but we can’t say that this game doesn’t have variety.   Learning the maps and modes will get easier with repetative play and a comfort level can then be established. For some players having such a large variety is a plus but for others a burden but if you’re a UT3 veteran then you will probably be pretty happy with what it provides making each new game actually a new experience, unlike others which your plays can be the same for many games which creates burnout very quickly. UT3 definitely brings again a new challenge for its players with a new warfare experience whether you’re a UT3 veteran or a new comer so be prepared for action!
