For a game that’s been in the making for several years now I have to say Dark Sectors delay in arrival was well worth the wait.  Dark Sector is available for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 and provides entertainment for those single players and multiplayer’s who dare challenge the excitement that Digital Extremes created for their pleasure.  I have to honestly say that the creators at Digital Extremes definitely must have kept their thinking hats on during development because the end result produced one great emotionally gripping 3rd person action game.

For those who decide to play in multiplayer mode the option whether you play online or in system link provides many hours of fun and excitement for 2-10 players.  Multiplayer option provides two very unique and interesting gameplay experience modes, Infection or Epidemic.  With the Infection mode you will play as Hayden Tenno (main character) and up to 9 additional team trooper members in which the troopers win by overwhelming and killing Hayden.  The troopers that kills Hayden then has to play as Hayden and the battle starts all over again with all the remaining troopers until complete.  In Epidemic mode which is a team based match the players are divided into two team s and one player will play as Hayden on each team and all the other players are troopers.  In this team based game Hayden still isn’t safe because all the players still compete to kill the other teams Hayden to be the ultimate winner.

Hayden Tenno the main character is an elite black-op agent who is sent to Lasria an Eastern European city on a dangerous mission to hopefully stop Robert Menzer (a cunning and brilliant scientist) who now seems to have gotten his hands on some type of Technocyte virus experiment gone badly.  This virus when in contact with humans either seems to kill its victims or turn them into some type of monster like creature with special super human powers.  Before long Lasria was overrun with the virus in an attempt to stop the virus Lasria had to be almost totally destroyed to stop the spread.  The government completely denies most events that occurred concerning this problem and many of its events pre and post virus discovery but proof of events also were present but the key now is fixing what is presently occurring and taking care of the past later but volunteers are scarce.  This is where Menzer (scientist) comes in and surprisingly volunteers to help on this mission.  After being in Lasria for only a couple of weeks all contact with Menzer was lost and now you (Hayden) is sent in to find Menzer and stop the further spread of the virus.  Unfortunately during your mission Hayden unfortunately gets attacked and becomes infected by the technocyte virus and awakes to find himself having powerful inhuman abilities unlike anything else.  While fighting to find Menzer and hopefully the cure for the virus Hayden also finds himself struggling emotionally with the changes his body has made but he can’t let this stop him now he must carry on and bring this all to an end and walk away as a hero.  During this mission Hayden also discovers that the more people or things he defeats the more powerful his powers become which make his battles even more interesting.

I won’t  t tell you how the game ends or every detail about it because the fun is the discovery and the gameplay and you won’t be disappointed but Dark Sector can provide many hours of brutal face offs when the journey begins after Hayden arrives in Lasria.  The military is already battling these creatures and Hayden has to be careful because to the army Hayden is just another creature but the only thing different is that Hayden isn’t being controlled by the main villain.  We all know anytime battles and fighting is involved in gaming having awesome weapons is a must; if not then don’t even fool with taking the game home.  Well with Dark Sector, Digital Extremes have you covered and you won’t be left disappointed because several weapons and upgrades are available with the most awesome no doubt being the glaive.

The glaive has to be the neatest of most weapons available and is actually a bladed disk that grows from out of Hayden’s hand and you will find to be a major element throughout the game.  The glaive certainly can’t be underestimated and can be combined with several other elements within your surroundings to make the ultimate weapon, electricity, fire, etc.  Hayden also has a shield that radiates from his arm that protects him from whatever his enemies bring along.  Hayden also has a “shifting” ability that grants him the ability to move around undetected which can prove to be a great advantage over the enemy as we all know, if you can’t be seen then you can’t be hurt right.  Players can carry two guns at all times with each having ample ammo and several upgrades for customizing weapons to make them the ultimate weapon.  Dark Sector also has a black market feature for purchasing new weaponry when needed but after mastering the glaive you really won’t feel like you need many more weapons  to assist you but the variety is there if you desire.

Dark Sectors graphics and audio are well suited for the game, of course not the best of the giants but definitely pretty good overall.  Controls are simplified and with Dark Sectors use of the character himself as the HUD the screen is free from a lot of clutter which helps aide in staying more focused with your gameplay.  Speaking of staying more focused Dark Sector also has over-the-shoulder camera perspective providing a full visual of one’s surroundings keeping close connection between the player and gameplay.  Despite its long development Digital Extremes end result produced a game definitely worth adding to your collection.   Dark Sector provides many hours of exciting action, originality, awesome weaponry and playing abilities, variety, repeated play value, worthwhile storyline and design so get your copy today!
