MAP PACK 3 REVIEW
The Review For Call of Duty World at War Map Pack 3!

Posted by London on Aug 9, 2009 00:22 (355 days ago)

The new Call of Duty World at War Map Pack 3 was released on August 6th, 2009. This map pack, exactly like the other ones, contains 3 new multiplayer maps, and one new Nazi Zombies map. Map Pack 3 costs $10, or 800 Microsoft Points.

First, I’ll talk about the new multiplayer maps, they include Battery, this medium sized map is an armored island surrounded by anti-ship mines, and shore-to-ship cannons, with some intense close-quarter action thrown in. Then we have Revolution, a large, sniper-friendly map, in a large factory, set in Russia’s streets. And last but not least, we have Breach. Breach is set in Berlin’s city streets, surrounding the Brandenburg Gate. This dense map is perfect for those fast-paced battles that everyone loves.

Battery, like I mentioned earlier, is a medium sized map placed on an armored island. This map has some very intense, close-quarter combat. You might want to equip those Thompsons or MP40s for protection from the enemy, who is likely to be around that next corner, but could also be behind you just as easily. Of course, a skilled marksman could make a living here, if he placed himself on one of the two small buildings that are branched out over the water, connected to the island with a bridge, that is, as long as he had someone to watch his back, since the enemy could come up from behind with ease. So if you are planning to take on the enemy from Battery, prepare on some intense, hand to hand battles.

Revolution is a very sniper-friendly map. Revolution is in a large factory, with some of Russia’s city streets thrown into the mix. Infantry beware! Because most likely, an enemy sniper is in that building, just waiting for the perfect time to pull the trigger, with you in their sights. But maybe, if you are lucky, you might just make it to the building from which you can then easily sneak up on that sniper who nearly took your life only moments ago. But Revolution is not a sniper-only map. This map could withstand some very intense battles, and most every sniper location is exposed, if someone wanted to come from behind. So snipers, place those Bouncing Bettys! And Riflemen, be careful out there. Revolution also has some very cool places and roofs that only the best of the best jumpers can make it to. Overall, Revolution has a very good blend of sniper locations, as well as some good places for those intense infantry battles to take place.

Breach is a very well designed, picture perfect map. The main attraction, and probably the first thing you will notice, is the Brandenburg Gate. The fast-paced battles of this map will take place on both sides of the Gate, with multiple ways under, and around the Gate. This map, in my opinion, is very good for objective games, like Domination, CTF, War, and so on. Breach has multiple buildings, most off to the side, complete with a few good sniper locations, but just like in Revolution, snipers, you may want to watch your back. Just like all of the maps in Call of Duty World at War, this map has very good detail added into it.

Ok, ok, the Multiplayer maps are cool, but what everyone wants to read about is the new Nazi Zombie map. The name of this map is Der Reise, translated, The Giant. This secret Nazi Research Facility is very high tech, featuring a Pack-A-Punch Machine, which will upgrade any weapon at the touch of a button. There is one setback to this machine however, to use the Pack-A-Punch Machine for only a single gun, the cost is a whopping 5000 points. But if you have an extra 5000 points laying around, it is definitely worth it to upgrade that Ray Gun, or any other gun for that matter because the Pack-A-Punch Machine increases the amount of ammunition per magazine, the look of the gun, the overall amount of ammunition the gun can hold, and the upgraded gun is quite a bit more powerful and really packs a punch. That was cheesy, should I backspace that? I guess I’ll leave it. Oh well. But the Pack-A-Punch Machine isn’t the only new feature in Der Reise. The map actually includes a variety of new things. One brand new feature included with this map is the new power-up. Yes, you read that right. A new power-up. This new power-up is a golden hammer, and it rebuilds every window in the map. Pretty sweet right?

There are multiple new weapons in Der Reise. You have the Bowie Knife, Monkey Bomb, and of course, all upgraded guns! Yes, the upgraded guns are considered new guns because, when you spend the hefty price of 5000 points, it actually changes the gun’s name. Like the PPSH changes into Reaper. The Bowie Knife is a bigger, and much scarier looking knife. Its not only scarier, its much more powerful. This strong knife kills zombies with one hit, until around about 15 or 16. This knife can only be obtained through buying it on the wall, for the price of 3000 points. That may be somewhat expensive, but if you kill 40 zombies with it, you’ll come upon 25 Gamerscore, with a shiny new achievement. Or a trophy, if you are a PS3-Lover. So, grab that knife, kill 40 zombies, and brag about your brand new achievement/trophy to all of your friends. The other brand new weapon isn’t a gun, it’s a bomb. A Monkey Bomb. This toy, yes, toy, is a very handy tool when being overwhelmed by the relentless horde of Nazi Zombies. The bomb looks like the wind-up monkey toy that walks around banging two cymbals together. And that’s exactly what it does. But it works because of all the commotion it makes. The commotion it makes, makes the zombies go toward it, and not you. And its not a bomb without an explosion, so after a few seconds, and a few zombies walk beside it, it blows up, killing all zombies near. And, just using one of these will get you another 25 Gamerscore Achievement/trophy. I talked about the upgraded weapons earlier so, no need to go over that again.

One major feature of Der Reise is the Teleporters. There are three teleporters on this map. Teleporter A, Teleporter B, and Teleporter C. Pretty easy right? Well each of these Teleporters must be linked to The Mainframe, which is where you spawn. To link them, you must turn on The Mainframe, but to do that, the power must be on. I’m probably confusing you, so I’ll just stop. It will make more sense when/if you play the map. The Teleporters are great for escaping those vicious Hellhounds, and, maybe if you’re a Zombie-Lover and don’t want to kill any of your undead friends, but don’t want to become a “Meatsnack”, then you could use The Teleports to go straight back to The Mainframe. Then, to be a really nice Zombie-Lover, you could throw those Zombies a nice toy, the Monkey Bomb. The Nazi Zombie map also has a lot of Easter Eggs, as well as 10 new Achievements/Trophies.

Overall, Map Pack 3 is a must-buy in my opinion. For only $10 (800 MS Points) with the 3 very well designed Multiplayer Maps, and the extreme new Nazi Zombie Map, without this map pack, all of your friends will be laughing at you while you’re still killing Zombies on Shi No Numa (Map Pack 2’s Zombie Map (I also have a review on that map pack as well, just in case you are interested.)). Personally, I think Map Pack 3 tops Map Pack 2, and I’m sure, if Treyarch releases a Map Pack 4, it will top this one. So, Thanks for Reading My Review over Map Pack 3, see you next time!
